Ok, so..Ive been in EMS for about 8 years, been an Intermediate for the last 5.  I just got my Paramedic in August, but still function as an Intermediate because of the county I live in (Columbus County, NC has no "County system", rescue squads handle their own areas and only 1 squad in the whole county is Paramedic with only 4 paid people.  The rest are strictly volunteer).  Anywho, I just got my 1st medic position at Sampson County EMS, and Im kinda nervous.  Im leaving my "comfort zone" of the county that I now call home, to go to another county that  I know nothing about.  A new certification, new people, new areas, etc.  I was just wandering if anyone has ever made a jump like that before, and how did you handle it?  Is there anything I can do to make it easier, or make a good impression on these people?  Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Sarah.  Im pretty good about not being shy.  Its kinda my downfall.  I have word vomit, and speak sometimes before I think..lol.  Im finishing my last week this week, and the nervousness is setting in.  Im excited about actually functioning as a medic and hopefully all will go well.  Thanks again for the advice!

I've been in EMS for 4 yrs now and I just recently got hired at a new place. Same county but the township is far from where I live. My advice to you is just be yourself, be polite and take any advice given. If they show you a different way to do something they arent saying you are doing it wrong just giving you another way to do it. there is always new techniques to be learned, you may even show them a thing or 2 they didnt know. show just be yourself and try and get to know the people you are working with. and dont be shy, i am a VERY shy person but when they are talking in a group chime in and it will be easier to get to know people. good luck on the new job!
