So need some advice from all the medics out there....

I want to know what do you expect from your EMT. What is the number one thing that you expect from your EMT to do. Its just a general question to see what different medics expect for their EMT to know how to do or what you think they should do.

any advice is accept so please let me know! really want to hear back from you!

I really want to know what you expect your EMT to do for you and know to do on an ALS call.

thanks!

I inform all of my co workers and students to preform to the maximum level of their scope and local protocols.  This will allow the rest of the team to be more efficient and have better patient care.  If I do not like what road they are going down I will ask them to hold up or to wait on that part.  Then we can discuss it after the call is over.

No def isnt a good feeling to have someone bitching at you for not knowing how to do THEIR job. But yeah what doesnt kill you will only make you stonger.

Yup, I totally agree.  I remember being a basic, and gettin thrown to the wolves, and its not a good feeling.  But I can say that it made me a stronger medic.

I agree with you. EMT-B should do the basic and the EMT-P should do the advanced. But medics shouldn't expect their EMT's to be able to do the ALS stuff. Some may know ALS stuff but that techincally is out of our scope of practice. And it's unfair to the EMT if the medic expects you to do something ALS and you don't know how or aren't comfortable doing it. the medic in turn should NOT give the EMT any grief about it because they dont know how to do something that isnt in their scope of practice. The basics should be handled by the EMT-B and the advanced should be handled by the MEDIC. (but i do agree with the EMT-B putting someone on the monitor because that really isnt all to difficult to do. But you understand where I'm coming from.) Some medics just forget that they were ALL where we (meaning the EMT-B) are now so they should respect us just as much as we respect them for being a "higher up."

Well, first, were all EMTs...I hate to see Paramedics giving their basics a hard way to go.  We were all there at some point or another, however, they should be able to do the "basic" stuff while the medic is preparing to do the "als" stuff.  I usually let my basic get my vitals, place the pt on oxygen, maybe even put em on the monitor...but I try to do it with respect and not seem like Im barking orders...I just got my 1st medic job, and my trainer was a total prick.  He acted like I had never been on an ambulance in my life, and in fact had been doing it longer that he has, so case in point, just do your job, and help eachother out, without the whole power trip deal!
