Okay...one of the biggest shock happened in my life today...well 3-Feb-2010...I ended up having to call an Ambulance to my home. My stepmom suffered from a Heart Attack. I was at the PD station about to talk to an officer. She called me tellig me the she had a headache, threw up, had severe chest pain, and was radiating into her left arm. After she said he left arm, it clicked to me that she was dying. I told a receptionist that I had an emergency at home to respond to and darted out the door across the parking lot to my car and drove off to home. I made it there within a five minute range. When I got there, we tried to get her to my car which was in the yard. But we were halfway there when she needed to sit down. I asked her if she wanted me to call 911, and she said yes, I got onto the phone, dragging both of my dogs into rooms to prevent them from having Firefighters for food. I called for the ambulance and they were on their way. I called a second time becuase I felt that they were taking to long, but dispatch told me to remain calm and breath, and so I did. Then when that happened, I heard the sirens on the way. I told my stepmom that they're near. I have to commend them for what happened. She was scared and so was I. But I still manage to help her through it. When she got to the ER, my Dad was on his way. Which was a little over 30min. My Dad wanted me to go to work, even when I told him that I could not leave her, he told me to be strong. So I went to work and held my head high as I could. My stepmom had two-four stents placed in her heart. She had a Miocardial Infarctation.
Later on when I got home, Dad told me that I saved her life. Me and my Stepmom had some head butting in the past when I was in EMT school. And now we got along, and she was like, "Crap, now I owe him something"
I don't know how to say it, but I don't think she "owes" me anything. I just did what I could to save her life.
I'll tell you another thing that sucked. Later on in the day when I was still at work, I had to call 911 again for another person who was having chest pains and my coworkers called me up to the front (I work at Wal-mart btw) And they needed medical expertise, and I went up thinking to myself "They have to be joking after what happened earlier" And sure enough there was someone having problems. So, I'm like wowed at myself for what happened today.

Well took the written on Monday and passed. I was pretty stoked. Now I'll start intermediate in Feb. I plan on working as EMT-I for at least a year before deciding on paramedic but its looking good so far.

I got my NREMT-Basic cert and patch last monday...I nearly cried and couldn't believe it. I was like so awed by it. My dad and brother was so proud of me. I just cannot wait till I get my Associate's Degree into it.

Good luck on the written. My advice is to work as an EMT-B before moving onto intermediate or paramedic, gaining valuable in field experience will help you with those classes.

Hey all. I just got done with the EMT-B class and passed the practical. Taking the written on Jan. 11th. Starting the EMT-I class in Feb. Should be getting on at our local volunteer dept. soon. If it all works out and I like it as much as I do now I'll bo going onto paramedic and a full time position.

With the EMT, learn as much as you can and take your time if you have to. Plus, when on the NREMT test, follow what everyone else has been talking about here. TAKE YOUR TIME and READ THE QUESTIONS CAREFULLY! That's what I followed up on. And, make sure that you eat a hearty meal, plus plenty of rest.
