Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the tips. I have applied to the local Volunteer Fire Department. Hopefully I can get picked up there and continue with my EMS Certs (Enhanced, Intermediate & Paramedic). I am looking forward to getting in the classes, learning and working in the community. Thanks again for the reply. Be safe! Nick

Nicholas, Good luck as you enter the RN program. I am not sure where New River CC is..but from my limited experience with EMS in Virginia is that 99% of the career EMT's with any EMS agency are all medics and dual trained/certified as firefighters. Virginia also has NUMEROUS volunteer EMS agencies where you can get in as an EMT-B. The other places you may want to look at, would be the local hospital(s) in the area your moving to. They employ EMT-B's in various parts of the hospital. Granted, its not a glamorous job, but it will get you some experience once you complete your RN program. The other avenue you may want to look into would be the private ambulance companies, i.e. AMR. As an EMT-B (assuming you have EVOC) you will more than likely be a glorified "taxi driver" as you shuttle these patients around the state. On the flip side, you can get some great critical care experience if you have a CCEMT-P with you and you're doing that type of transport.

Whichever you do, good luck with it. Feel free to ask any more questions. If none of us know it, I am sure one of us could find the answer for you.

Hey Y'all. I am an EMT-B from California that has moved to Va. Does anyone have any help for me in finding work? I am going to be a RN student at New River Community College. Have a great night and thanks in advance.
